Ghostwriting Pricing Overview

If you’ve looked at ghostwriting pricing, you’ll see that there is a wide range of different prices. That can be frustrating. However, the reason that pricing is so complicated is that projects are complicated – there are many variables that change in each project that in turn affect the amount of time it takes to complete.

In general, you get what you pay for when it comes to hiring a ghostwriter, both in terms of quality of writing and how easy the process will be. However, I do pride myself in being one of the best values out there. If my past clients are any indication – many who have been with me for decades – I offer easy, professional services at a budget-pleasing price.

Terms and Payment Schedule

Large Projects (Books, etc.)

Payment schedules are handy for larger projects because it attaches specific milestones to each payment, spreading your cost over time for the author. I will confirm a payment schedule with you in my proposal, but in general I recommend:

1.  25% due at signing/start of project
2.  25% after the completion of the first chapter
3.  25% after the completion of approximately half the book
4.  25% after final sign-off

I am happy to work with clients who require a different payment schedule including changing or adding milestones.

Smaller Projects (Articles, etc.)

1.  50% due at signing/start of project
2.  50% due at delivery of final article

Royalties Later Instead of Payment Now

Generally speaking, I do not accept arrangements that include royalties instead of my usual fee – not many ghostwriters do. I make exceptions in some cases where the author already has a publishing contract or similar situations. That would be determined on a case-by-case basis.
